2022-23 School Meal Information

 

Important changes to North Penn meal services are coming this fall!

There will be several important changes to NP SNS meal services starting fall 2022. Due to the expiration of federal USDA waivers, effective 2022/2023 school year, lunches will no longer be free for all students. Universal free breakfast will still be available to all students at no cost for the 2022-23 school year. Students qualifying for reduced priced meals will also receive lunch at no cost.  

In addition, ALL students will need to scan or enter their PIN each time they have a school breakfast or school lunch. Every student’s PIN is the same as their school identification number. Please help your student get ready for this change by learning their PIN! If you do not know your student’s school ID, please email  [email protected] or contact the secretary at your student’s school. To help your student learn their ID number, use our friendly practice sheet!

Breakfast and lunch meals are free to students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals.


School Meal Applications

Application for Meal Benefits for the 2022/2023 school year is now available online. 

Households must apply to qualify for free or reduced priced meals for 22-23. We encourage families who think they qualify or unsure if they qualify to complete the free and reduced-price meal benefits application, to determine your child’s eligibility. Applications can be completed online at SchoolCafe.com or paper applications are available in every school's main office.

If you have received a Direct Certification Notice you do not need to fill out an application.


Meal Accounts

All students need to scan or enter their student ID number each time they have a school breakfast or school lunch.

Meal accounts are assigned free to every student. Payments can be made to student meal accounts for a week, month or whole year! Any positive account balances roll over each school year.

Add money to a student’s meal account using Schoolcafe.com (transaction fee applies) or send in cash or check (payable to NPSNS) with your student and the school nutrition cashier will add the money to their meal account.


Menus & Nutrition

North Penn SNS is part of the National School Lunch Program which follows strict federal nutritional guidelines. We use SchoolCafe.com to publish our monthly menus online. SchoolCafe contains monthly menus complete with nutrition facts, ingredients and allergens.


Meal Charging & Negative Account Balances

Negative account balances impact our operating efficiency and forces us to potentially increase prices year to year. School Nutrition Services works diligently to recover negative balances. Therefore, negative balance notifications will be sent home weekly via email and voicemail. To avoid getting the weekly negative balance email, we suggest keeping meal accounts up-to-date. Parents/guardians are responsible for keeping student accounts up-to-date. Please refer to our SNS website for our School Meal Charge Procedure.

Students will never be denied breakfast or lunch. Second meals and a la carte are not permitted if a student has a negative account balance.


Student Allergies

The district shall make reasonable meal accommodations to students with special dietary needs due to a disability that restricts the diet. A Medical Plan of Care can be found on the SNS website and must be filled out by a physician and submitted to NP School Nutrition Services.
